Goodbye, Windows & Symbian. Hello Apple!

Since my last post about my (then) beloved Satio I’ve made another set of quite unprecedented changes: I went and got myself an Apple MacBook Pro 13″ and an iPhone 3GS. Why?

  • I installed OSX onto my EeePC and fell in love. Despite its laggy nature on a 1.6GHz single core Intel Atom, the fact that things “just worked” (Windows) and I could still open a UNIX-style terminal (Linux) appealed to me. It’s the perfect balance. Also, when I compare “just works” to Windows, it’s not even in the same ballpark – it’s SO much better.
  • SonyEricsson and Nokia have abandoned Symbian. They are now concentrating on the half-arsed Android and Maemo, although the latter seems like it could have potential, I haven’t seen it in the flesh yet. Much like my Satio, I have jailbroken my iPhone. I do miss the 12MP camera and its Xenon flash though :(

I also quit my job as a support/network manager for a small company. You’d think that would allow me to focus my time on the things I love. That’s why I did it, because I wanted to direct my career towards programming/development. Turns out, I’m not the best at organising my free time or predicting what I love and, whilst I have done the odd bits and pieces I can’t say I’ve really concentrated much on anything, or progressed, for that matter. What I’ve done:

  • Buy Apple stuff
  • Buy new speakers for my car
  • Go on holiday

Great fun, just not the career-progressing stuff I’d hoped my time would be packed with. Until now.

Dear submitter,

Thank you for your test submission of a puzzle solution to Facebook! After running your solution to hoppity (received on August 2, 2010, 9:04 am), I have determined it to be correct. Since your test has been successful, you are all set to try one of the other puzzles. Best of luck!

Sincerely,

This, I think, is my way forward.
